You’re not alone.
In fact, according to USA Today, a record 28.5 million people will fly the friendly skies for the Thanksgiving holiday. And that’s just Thanksgiving Day travel!
Whether you’re a seasoned traveler or an infrequent one, you already know that airport transportation demands you:
That’s a given.
But there are a few changes this holiday season, courtesy of the Transportation Security Administration, or TSA. So whether you’re a veteran traveler or just home for the holidays, check out our list for abiding by the TSA rules.
Hint: One of them is new!
Pack Your patience and arrive early: Airport transportation means arriving at the airport early. This time of year, you want to arrive even earlier, as much as an hour or more. It may be a hassle but you’ll be glad you did, especially if you’re stuck in a security line dotted with families making their once a year pilgrimage to a home far, far away.
What’s more, arriving early will save you from possibly missing your flight. And let’s face it. This time of year, if that happens, it’s tough to find an empty seat on another flight. So just arrive early!

Pack for your security clearance: When you’re packing for airport travel, remember to pack for your security clearance.
That means most liquids must be in containers that weigh 3.4 ounces, or less. And, these liquids must be placed in a clear plastic bag.
If you’re bringing your laptop or other electronic devices, make sure they can be removed easily from your luggage.
And those wrapped gifts you’re toting to grandma’s house? Well, the good news is the TSA doesn’t prohibit wrapped presents.
BUT, if something inside of the gift raises an alarm, you will have to unwrap it.
Electronic devices: New this year, the TSA is requiring that all electronic devices larger than a cell phone MUST be removed from carry-on bags from screening, except for PreCheck lines.
Keep an eye on the weather! Starting 72 hours before your scheduled flight, you’ll want to watch for changes in weather patterns. If the weather is poor, check your flight status. If the weather spells trouble, contact your airline carrier.
